J'aime recevoir et faire goûter mes réalisations, voir les papilles apprécier les saveurs de nos campagnes. Josianne, her partner Jean-Pierre, and his mother hosted me and my two Spanish-speaking friends for an unforgettable poolside meal at the country home they have been building themselves for many years. Josianne's "simple" meal is anything but, with delicious tapenade spreads, an onion tart and some battered shrimp & zucchini flowers to start (!). We chose a hearty fish course with Provencal-style tomatoes which Josianne cooked in their wood-fired oven, followed by simple but delicious salad/cheese/dessert courses. Jean-Pierre treated us to champagne poolside before the meal and then two delectable bottles of rosé to help us enjoy a wide-ranging conversation late into the evening. Despite the fact that we were speaking three different languages, the low-key atmosphere (along with my basic French, Jean-Pierre's basic English, plus the wonders of Romance-language cognates), everyone understood one another perfectly.
We also decided to stay the night in her "petite chalet," equipped with a fold-out double sofa bed and an extra cot--a little crowded with three people but at a very reasonable price. The bathroom next door was very nice and Josianne providing us all with towels and bathrobes so we could take a midnight swim after dinner shows how much attention she pays to the little details.
